Tool Maker Role and Responsibilities
TOOL MAKER
Non-exempt
Reports to: Tool Maker Lead
Role:
- Ensures that all tools are built or modified to client specifications and is able to run as efficiently as possible.
Quality Role:
- Verify dimensions, alignments, etc. of mold to ensure conformance to specifications.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Set-up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machines to cut, bore, grind or otherwise create molds to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
- Study prints to plan sequences of steps for maximum efficiency.
- Select metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerance.
- Set pyrometer controls of heat-treating furnaces and feed or place molds or components in to harden.
- Set-up and operate a wide range of machine tools and performs progressive machining operations on work involving very close tolerances.
- Completion of shop documentation as required.
- Follows all company policies and attendance guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned or requested.
Knowledge/Skills Required:
- Ability to read, speak and write English.
- Knowledge of plastic injection molding industry.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications, including reading blueprints.
- Be proficient in the use of machinist hand tools and measuring instruments.
- Experience with a wide range of machining processes such as milling, turning, grinding, process planning, inspection and safety factors.
- Experience in the set-up and operation of CNC machine tools and processes.
- Ability to lift up to 55lbs.
